When did you join ROTODECOR and for what reason?
I joined Rotodecor, after my former employee (also a major player in the printing press engineering industry), that I had been loyally working for since my apprenticeship, did not renew my working contract. I already knew the company itself and the product portfolio of Rotodecor and I personally knew most of its founders. Besides that, several of my colleagues decided to start at Rotodecor also. That's why I applied. I wanted to have a secure work place and earn good money - and now I can even travel the world.
What did your career look like at ROTODECOR and what are your goals?
I started with Rotodecor in February 2005 and assembled machines and plants for our clients as a mechanical engineer. After successfully mastering severa projects I started to work independently in the pre-assembly section. In 2009 I got the first assembly project of entire plants under my responsibility. Especially due to projects in foreign countries and the intense interaction with our clients, I was able to significantly extended my knowledge and experience. I was able to gather intercultural experience and now know my way about all over the world. The harmonic and intense contact with my colleagues additionally boosted my personal development.
By now many things have changed in my private life that make me want to spend more time with my family at home. This of course is hard to combine with my former position as Head of Assembly. Since I finished my degree as a mechanical engineer by attending evening courses in 2007, I was able to change my position in August 2011 and now work in our headquarter in the area of construction.
Starting in 2012, I will be employed as a constructing engineer. In the first step, this will imply a lot of learning in the area of constructing systems and components, compiling bills of materials as well as drawing parts and components. In a second step I can work as a project leader - definitely an interesting challenge. Besides I am more than happy, that I really like my job and that I can live a decent life with my family without worrying about financial difficulties.
Why should an apprentice start at ROTODECOR and what should be his or her qualification?
Since Rotodecor is a family-run and medium-sized company, everything here is very familiar and personal. You simply feel at home here. Any problems or concerns can immediately be discussed with the people in charge. Our instructor has a lot of experience and has helped many of us to successfully complete our apprenticeships. Next to him, there are many many well-trained and experienced colleagues in all departments that happily share their knowledge with you.
If you want to start at Rotodecor, you should not be shy or over-cautious but open-minded and with a good sense of humour. Our working atmosphere is very relaxed and casual, laughing is important especially when working on serious projects. Besides that a good school education as well as willingness to lear, a quick mind and a thirst for knowledge is key. Everything else is what you can learn during the apprenticeship - and after that all doors are open to you at Rotodecor.
